Why do you think engaging in the AAMC Virtual Community is important?
Engaging in the AAMC Virtual Community is important because it provides a collaborative space for GME professionals to share knowledge, best practices, and resources that enhance program administration and support. It fosters networking opportunities with peers across institutions, allowing for discussions on accreditation updates, policy changes, and innovative solutions to common challenges. Additionally, active participation promotes professional growth, continuous learning, and the ability to stay informed on emerging trends that impact medical education.
 

Do you have a professional skill or area of expertise that might be of particular interest to your peers in this community?
Yes, I have extensive expertise in GME program administration, including accreditation compliance, ACGME requirements, and optimizing residency and fellowship operations.
 

What should people in the virtual community contact you about?
GME program administration, accreditation compliance, ACGME requirements, and best practices for managing residency and fellowship programs.
 

What was the best book you most recently read (or TV show/movie) that you watched?
Atomic Habits by James Clear and The Bear TV show.
 

What’s the best piece of professional advice you have ever received?
Always stay adaptable and embrace continuous learning.
 

What’s the worst piece of professional advice you have ever received?
Stay in your lane.
 

What do you think is the best, most challenging, or most unique thing about working in academic medicine (or your field or specialty specifically)?
The opportunity to directly impact the training and development of future physicians. The challenge lies in balancing accreditation requirements, institutional policies, and administrative duties.
 

What do you hope to gain from this online community?
Valuable insights, best practices, innovative strategies, and networking opportunities.
 

Did you have an unusual path to your current career?
Yes, I started as a corrosion scientist and transitioned into GME program administration after COVID-19 affected my previous position.
 

Was there a speaker or session topic that stands out as your favorite from a conference, workshop, or webinar you've attended?
Dr. Jane Smith’s session on Innovative Strategies in Resident and Fellow Support at AFMA Annual Conference.
 

How do you prefer to start your day?
Calm morning routine with coffee, planning, and sometimes a short workout.
 

How do you prefer to end your day?
Quiet reflection, family time, and relaxation with reading or shows.
 

What’s the biggest misconception people have about your position?
That it's just administrative paperwork. It involves strategic thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration.
 

You’re throwing a dinner party and can invite 3 people (alive or dead). Who do you invite?
Maya Angelou, Albert Einstein, Nelson Mandela.
 

What are your favorite restaurants where you live?
The Tea Room and La Finca in Gilmer, Texas.
 

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Marine biologist.
 

What do you do to turn around a bad day?
Take a walk, focus on small achievements, reflect on gratitude.
 

What’s the weirdest food you’ve ever eaten?
Durian.
 

Do you have pets?
Yes, a cat (Pearl) and four dogs (Luke, Winston, Wyatt, and Sodie Pop)
