Virtual Community Champion

Why do you think engaging in the AAMC Virtual Community is important?
Networking, knowledge sharing, best practices.

Do you have a professional skill or area of expertise that might be of particular interest to your peers in this community? Are you the "go-to" person at your institution for advice or expertise in a particular subject?
I am very passionate about entire medical education continuum, however, most of my work has been focused in GME. I love working on strategy, communication and process improvement initiatives. I have been highly involved in specialty and local GME Administrator groups, serving in various leadership roles and actively promoting the GME profession.

What was the best book you most recently read?
Joy at Work: Organizing Your Professional Life - by Scott Sonenshein (Rice University business professor) and Marie Kondo (famed tidying expert) - Brilliant book with lots of very practical insights about workplace organization and focusing on work that brings joy, backed up by solid academic research.

What's the best piece of professional advice you have ever received?
When you learn, teach, when you get, give. - Maya Angelou

Did you have an unusual path to your current career?
Prior to entering academic medicine, I worked as a certified paralegal, and before that a veterinary technician. I am so happy I landed in graduate medical education!

How do you prefer to start your day?
First, a cup of coffee (with lots of creamer). Then I like to tackle my MIT (Most Important Thing) of the day - helps me to feel accomplished and gets a priority item off my to-do list.

How do you prefer to end your day?
I update my running to-do list. I love using Microsoft To-Do - it integrates with my Outlook email and tasks and Microsoft Teams.

How did you maintain your wellness and resilience during the pandemic? Any tips to share with others?
I personally love Lagree Megaformer fitness classes - the perfect balance of strength, cardio and core work. I also strive to set work life boundaries.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A veterinarian - I love animals.

Is there anything else you'd like to add?
My greatest joy in life is my family - my husband, twin 3 yr old boys and a 1 yr old baby girl. My everything.
