On January 28, 2021, President Biden signed an Executive Order to create an emergency Special Enrollment Period (SEP) due to the COVID-19 public health emergency. Now individuals and families can apply and enroll in the coverage they need and will be able to do so until the SEP ends on May 15, 2021. As institutions on the frontlines serving patients, medical schools and teaching hospitals can help increase awareness among uninsured individuals and guide them through enrollment and the plan selection process. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has developed a toolkit to assist with amplifying these critical messages through social media posts, graphics, flyers, and more.
