Native CIRCLE (Cancer Information Resource Center and Learning Exchange) is a program that provides culturally-appropriate health education materials for Native Americans. When first established 1997 at the Mayo Clinic Cancer Center, the resource library originally focused on cancer materials. It has since grown to include Indigenous-inspired content covering a broad range of health and wellness topics, including culture, diabetes, nutrition, mindfulness, tobacco use and physical activity. The Native CIRCLE library now resides in the Roswell Park Center for Indigenous Cancer Research.
One of the original leaders of the Native CIRCLE program is Judith Salmon Kaur, MD, professor of oncology at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science. Dr. Kaur has just been awarded the 2021 Herbert W. Nickens Award for her work addressing cancer-related health disparities among Indigenous populations in the United States. Dr. Kaur will be recognized with this award on October 27.------------------------------
