  • 1.  service-learning during COVID - interest in brainstroming?

    Posted 07-14-2020 11:34:00 AM

    Hello Colleagues,
I direct the community service learning (CSL) program at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.

I am reaching out because we are struggling, as I'm sure most educational institutions are, on how to best guide our students in conducting CSL projects during this time of COVID.  Here in Texas we are heading in the wrong direction with COVID, and I do not foresee students conducting their traditional service activities anytime in the near future.

It has been a challenge to guide them on how to re-direct to virtual and other ways of service. I am sure we are not alone.

With that in mind, I am wondering if those of us who are involved in service-learning at medical schools might want to have a conference call to come together to brainstorm and exchange ideas on "How to do CSL during the COVID-19 Pandemic"?

If you are interested, please respond to this thread!

    Dear Colleagues,
A few weeks ago, I convened an online meeting with those in charge of service-learning at their respective medical schools to discuss needs and brainstorm ideas for community service learning during COVID.  It was helpful!  If anyone is interested in meeting again, please send me an email:  stonem@uthscsa.edu.  When I have enough responses, I will schedule another meeting.
    Thanks!
    Melanie
