On this Tip Tuesday, we need your help sharing an important tip with any undergraduates-or peers who work with undergraduates--in your life. The tip is this: The AAMC is changing its Fee Assistance Program to enable more students to qualify for assistance paying for the MCAT® exam, prep materials, and application fees.
Details:
- For those with a family income at or below 400% of the national poverty level, the program provides free MCAT prep materials, reduced MCAT registration fees, access to the Medical School Admission Requirements™ (MSAR®) database, a waiver of all AMCAS® fees for up to 20 medical school applications, and free registration for the new AAMC PREview™ exam.
- Two eligibility requirements have been modified: 1) Applicants age 26 and over no longer need to submit their parents' financial information (eligibility will instead depend on their own income); and 2) Applicants no longer need to show proof of U.S. citizenship or qualifying visa status (only proof of U.S. address is needed).
We have had nearly 30,000 applicants qualify for the Fee Assistance Program over the last 2 years, and we estimate that the new eligibility criteria will allow at least 1,000 more students to qualify for assistance in the upcoming cycle.
