The AAMC has released its annual report on physician projections, The Complexities of Physician Supply and Demand: Projections from 2019-2034, which says the United States could see an estimated shortage of between 37,800 and 124,000 physicians by 2034, including shortfalls in both primary and specialty care. "The pandemic has underscored the vital role that physicians and other health care providers play in our nation's health care infrastructure and the need to ensure we have enough physicians to meet America's needs," said AAMC President and CEO @David Skorton, MD. A new op-ed by Skorton and @Janis Orlowski, MD, AAMC chief health care officer, published in USA Today, further explores the role of the academic medicine community in addressing the nation's projected physician shortage to meet the growing demand of doctors and health care workers.
