Now, more than ever, Americans are counting on your institutions. Medical schools and teaching hospitals have always been important anchors within their communities, but demonstrating evidence of your impact is challenging. Now, more than ever, Americans are counting on your institutions. Medical schools and teaching hospitals have always been important anchors within their communities, but demonstrating evidence of your impact is challenging.

We want to remind you that the AAMC has national and state-level data on the economic impact of medical schools and teaching hospitals.

    For example, AAMC member institutions:
    • support more than 6.3 million jobs in the United States,
    • generate about 3% of the U.S. GDP, and
    • contributed more than $562 billion in value to the national economy (in 2017).

This data may be particularly useful as you have conversations with community leaders, policymakers, and other stakeholders.
