It's
#Tip-Tuesday! Bringing up a helpful tip that Toni shared in the past related to writing effective titles for scholarly publication, courtesy of the editors at
Academic Medicine. Remember: the title is the first, and sometimes only, part of your work that potential readers will see, so it's important to grab their attention and entice them to read on.

Subject: Writing up your work for publication? Tips from the editors of Academic Medicine for writing effective titles
My colleagues and I at Academic Medicine recommend the following strategies for writing effective titles:
- Keep it simple. Titles should be straightforward and informative.
- Include key search terms.
- Limit acronyms and generally define terms and topics.
- Use subtitles to provide clarity.
- Capture readers' attention, but use a scholarly tone.
- Sometimes break the rules!
You can apply these strategies to articles you're writing for journals like Academic Medicine and MedEdPORTAL, other scholarly publications, grant applications, conference abstracts, and more. The title is the first, and sometimes only, part of your work that potential readers will see, so it's important to grab their attention and entice them to read on.
We provide other strategies for writing effectively on AM Rounds. Read more.
