To facilitate meaningful professional connections and peer-to-peer learning—and to get to know each other better—we launched this Member Spotlight series in July, and we’re excited to have Hector Lopez join us for our second spotlight!

May we introduce you? If you are willing to be featured here, reach out to Stephanie Weiner (that’s me!) here via the community direct messaging feature

My name is Hector Lopez, I’m an associate professor at the Department of Pathology and Cell Biology at the Morsani College of Medicine in Tampa, Florida.

Do you have a professional skill or area of expertise that might be of particular interest to your peers in this community? Are you the “go-to” person at your institution for advice or expertise in a particular subject?
Since 2018, my role has been to teach clinical anatomy using diagnostic imaging and ultrasound technology.

I am the “go-to” person on topics related to ultrasound education at the undergraduate level during the 1st, 2nd, and 4th years. I also run the medical Spanish course for medical students during their clinical years.

What was the best book you most recently read (or TV show/movie that you watched)?
The best book that I have recently read is Make it Stick: The Science of Successful Learning by P. Brown and H Roediger. I fell in love with this book since there are many forces within the educational system that force the students to worry about performance rather than learning in a deeper way. Good teaching should use strategies that make learning easier without sacrificing deep learning. Make It Stick draws on discoveries in cognitive psychology and other disciplines, the authors offer concrete techniques for becoming more productive learners.

I’d love to connect, so don’t hesitate to reach out to me. See you around the community!
