Question of the Week (April 27-May 1): Public opinion of medical schools and teaching hospitals
Even before the pandemic, the general public had positive perceptions of medical schools and teaching hospitals: 69% of public opinion poll respondents had a favorable opinion of teaching hospitals and 66% held a favorable opinion of medical schools. AAMC public opinion research also shows, however, that some of the unique qualities of academic medicine-especially the research enterprise-are valued but less understood.
Do you think that the recent public attitude of appreciation for healthcare workers and the national policy discussion around medical research challenges will have additional impact on public opinion?
