Staying present–avoiding distraction or the urge to multitask–is something many of us are struggle with.
Art Markman, PhD, author of Bring Your Brain to Work, offers these 3 tips to prevent your mind from wandering off task:
- Try mindfulness techniques. They will help you to recognize thought patterns and help you notice when your mind starts to wander.
- Learn a new response to the thoughts that urge you to change tasks. Even if you don't stop the intrusive thoughts from happening, you can change your response.
- Take notes, not texts. Physical engagement can help you pay closer attention, especially in a virtual setting (like a meeting)
- .Use pen and paper to take notes or even to doodle. Keep your body engaged in the meeting.
