Maternal death rates and inequities in the United States are high – and on the rise. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Black, American Indian, and Alaska Native women are two to three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than White women. A new AAMC fact sheet provides an overview on some of the diverse strategies and efforts that the AAMC and its member medical schools and teaching hospitals have undertaken to combat the maternal health crisis and strengthen the systems that improve the health of birthing persons and infants.
