  • 1.  Question of the Week: Do we have any Olympians in our community?

    Posted 02-07-2022 08:00:00 AM

    The Winter Olympics are underway!

Do we have any current or former Olympians in our community? Or at your institutions? Tell us about them!

A casual internet search reveals that Erica Ogwumike, who competed in the most recent summer Olympics for the Nigerian women’s basketball team, is a student at UT Southwestern medical school. And University of Kentucky School of Medicine is the proud home of at least one (two? @John Perry, do you know how many it is?) Olympic fencing champions. Kamali Thompson, an orthopedic surgery resident at Temple (and Rutger's medical school alumna) is a fencer, currently representing Team USA! @Douglas Reifler, Did you know this?

    USA! USA!

I loved this story about a paralympic athlete, Sam Grewe, a first-year medical student at the University of Michigan Medical School, who competed last year in Tokyo as a high jumper.

One of our family medicine doctors served as an IOC physician in 2018:
