You, dear reader, are one of more than 1,200 members of the AAMC virtual community network. It's a valuable resource for connecting with others, but we know the logistics can sometimes be confusing. In this Tip Tuesday, we are offering some clarity on how the community works and advice on how to make the most of your participation.
- This network is actually composed of 14 different communities. Every member is subscribed to the “Open Forum” community (you are here now), which is the broadest of these 14. There are also communities organized around topic areas or professional interests: such as health equity; COVID-19; curriculum management; information technology; medical education; and institutional advancement. And there are closed communities limited to cohorts of participants around specific AAMC programs and projects. To find out which communities you can join, select Communities > All Communities at the top of the page, or to see the communities you already have access to, select Communities > My Communities.
- Content within a community is presented in different formats: discussion posts, announcements, libraries, events, polls, and more. Discussion posts are the conversation threads that provide that valuable member-to-member connection. After reading a discussion post (like this one!) you can “Like” or “Reply” in the upper right corner of the window.
- A link to the Member Directory can be found at the top of the page. The directory has an advanced search function that allows you to identify other community members by institution type and job function. Remember, for your own profile to be searchable by these fields, you must complete your profile! You can do so by visiting your profile page, and clicking the pencil icon next to any of the editable fields.
For more information about the AAMC Communities network, check out our FAQ within the Help section, and of course, don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly if you have any questions or have ideas on how we can enhance the community network in 2021!
See you around the community,
Stephanie
