The AAMC's annual
Report on Residents is an online collection of data tables that provide information on certain characteristics of residency applicants and residents, as well as information on post residency professional activities. It pulls data from multiple sources to create tables that focus on issues across states, specialties, and phases of the GME continuum.
Although the changes in this report from year to year are often marginal, the
Report on Residents is one of many important resources for tracking changes within the largest specialties and subspecialties.
For example:
- Table A1 shows the number of medical school graduates who intend to enter each specialty, and whether they reported a different intention when they first entered medical school. Did your specialty interests change throughout your education?
- Table B5 and Table B6 show active residents by race/ethnicity and GME specialty of training.
- Table C4 shows how many physicians go on to practice in the state where they trained by specialty of training.
If you have questions or insights around this latest report - please let us know! Do some of the outcomes surprise you?
