In this Tip Tuesday post, we take a moment to honor the life and legacy of a physician whose advice and guidance is likely familiar to every emergency medicine trainee: Paul Auerbach, MD, a pioneer in the field of wilderness medicine. A longtime professor at Stanford University SOM, Dr. Auerbach died last month. Throughout his career, he researched, taught, and offered advice on subjects from disaster medicine, to head injury prevention, to the health effects of climate change. He wrote the primary textbook on wilderness medicine and helped create the Wilderness Medical Society. Read more about his adventurous life and significant contributions.
In 2019, AAMCNews took a close look at the field he helped establish. Read “Docs gone wild: The risks and rewards of wilderness medicine”.
