They can both likely be found at the mall.
It’s an unlikely symbiotic relationship: medical centers need more room to grow (and more parking!) and struggling shopping malls need more tenants to fill their retail space.
University of Rochester Medical Center is embarking on an expansion to the nearby Marketplace Mall in upstate New York, where they are turning the old Sears store into an orthopedic surgery center and medical offices. Conveniently located near the Lands’ End, Foot Locker, and Target.
The Jackson Medical Mall, home to many services of the University of Mississippi Medical Center, was—in a previous life—the city of Jackson’s first shopping mall. It was shuttered and converted to a medical facility in the 1990s.
The Vanderbilt Health One Hundred Oaks facility in Nashville is located at the One Hundred Oaks Mall, which has a movie theater and some big name discount stores like Ross, TJ Maxx and Burlington.
Does your medical center have a presence at the mall?
@Cynthia Floyd Manley, @Peter Robinson, @Patrice Guilfoyle, APR - have you been involved at all with these expansions to mall spaces? How has it been?
