My biggest professional challenge is preparing for our accreditation survey site visit while our medical schools is making adjustments due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our leadership is very taxed with altering practices due to COVID-19, especially on such short timelines, and adding all of the time required for adequate accreditation preparation is extremely difficult and will likely lead to burnout/stress for those in which it has not already occurred.

There are several challenges.  The response to the first major wave of COVID-19 caused a lot of economic, educational, and personnel upheaval.  The challenge has been to manage through that upheaval while anticipating upcoming challenges as the spread of the virus in the community continues.  Now there are fewer individuals available to share an increased workload and that workload has the potential to be redistributed again.  This shifting landscape has lead to the need to also manage increased anxiety.  Understandably, people are not just stressed about their work; they are also stressed about their parents, childcare, finances, etc.  All of this has been has reminded us to focus on resources not just for students and patients, but resources for faculty and staff as we navigate this uncertainty.
