  • 1.  #MaskUp AAMC Communities Network Contest

    Posted 09-02-2020 09:01:00 AM

Hey community members, join the effort to make face coverings “the new normal” and support widespread mask use to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Show us your mask! Upload a photo—sporting a face mask—to your profile here on the Communities network platform.

While ensuring public health is the ultimate prize for mask compliance, there are other prizes available too:

    • Best Mask Contest: Using profile photos, a slate of finalists will be selected at the end of September and presented to the community to vote for the winning mask (profile photo must be uploaded by Sept. 28 at 11:59 pm ET to be eligible).
    • Weekly Drawing: Each week this September, the name of a community member who has updated their profile (photo, job function, institution type, education, and/or job history) will be entered into a drawing. A new winner will be selected each week starting Friday, Sept. 11.

For the full contest rules, see below.

Contest Period: September 2, 2020 at 9:00 AM ET to September 28, 2020 at 11:59 PM ET.

    Qualifying Entry:

    • To enter the Best Mask Contest, upload a profile photo that shows you wearing a face mask during the Contest Period. Your profile photo at the end of the Contest Period is the photo that will be used for the contest.
    • To enter the Weekly Drawing, visit your virtual community profile page to upload your profile picture and complete other profile fields, including but not limited to, filling out education history, job history, bio section, job function, and institution type. Community users who complete any of these profile sections will be added to the weekly drawing for the week in which the update is made. Alternatively, you may enter the Weekly Drawing by emailing sweiner@aamc.org with the subject line #MaskUp drawing entry to be entered for the week in which your email is received.

Prize: The winner of the Best Mask Contest and the winners of the three Weekly Drawings will each receive a $25 digital Amazon gift card. No substitution, cash equivalent, or transfer of prize is permitted.

    Winner Selection and Notification:

    • Best Mask Contest – Three finalists will be selected from all Qualified Entries by a panel of AAMC staff based on an effective mask (covering can be cloth, medical, no gaiter-style) that is creative, clever, humorous, or attractive. The three finalists will then be posted on September 29 to the AAMC Communities platform to be judged by an online vote of AAMC Communities users.  Voting will close Thursday, October 1, at 11:50 PM ET and the winner will be announced via the Open Forum on Friday, October 2 at 2:00 PM ET.
    • Weekly Drawing – Each week, the winner will be selected at random from all Qualifying Entries under the supervision of AAMC staff. Winners will be notified on Fridays by 2:00 p.m. ET through the virtual community network and email and announced in the Open Forum at 4:00 p.m. ET. Winners must acknowledge prize and confirm email address that prize should be delivered to by Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. the following week. If winner does not claim prize, AAMC reserves the right to award two prizes the following week. The odds of winning will depend on the number of Qualifying Entries received.

Sending congratulations to our weekly drawing winners -- @Nick Cheung  this week, and @John Mitchell from last week!

As a reminder to all community members, there's still time to complete your profile and win prizes this month (drawings each Friday). If you upload a profile picture wearing a mask, you'll be entered in our end-of-month contest for best profile picture (yes, there's a prize for that, too!).

You only need 1 minute to make this happen.  From the arrow next to your name in the upper right corner of the screen: click "Profile" > select "upload picture" or "change picture" under the photo box > upload your photo file.

If you have 2 minutes, tell us more about you by selecting the relevant boxes under Job Function and Institution Type. These are most helpful to your fellow community members when sorting/finding others with particular expertise or from similar institutions.

If you have 4 minutes, select the relevant boxes under Job Function and Institution Type, as well as complete the fields under Education and Job History.

If you have 10 minutes, complete the Job Function, Institution Type, Education, and Job History fields, and type a couple of quick sentences into the Bio field to let other community members know a little more about you and your areas of expertise.

    Did You Know.... there are:
    • 28 users in the community site with "curriculum" in their title,
    • 267 users with the word "dean" in their title (i.e. Associate Dean for Education or Associate Dean for Student Affairs),
    • 66 users with "student affairs" in their title, and
    • Over 300 unique medical schools, teaching hospitals, and organizations represented via their faculty and staff’s participation in the AAMC virtual communities network!
Feel free to explore the community more and meet other members through the Member Directory advanced search feature. You can search and sort by name, job function, institution name or type, and several other fields!

Want to help other people find you (and potentially win a prize)? Make sure your profile is complete. You can follow some of the steps listed in this discussion thread to enter the contest. Our next drawing is tomorrow (9/24) afternoon at 2 pm ET. If you upload a profile picture of you wearing a mask, you'll also be entered in our "Best Profile Picture" contest next week. The community will vote for our grand-prize winner!
