There is plenty of advice out there on how to set up a home office—from protecting your eyes and back with quality lighting and furniture, to the best noise-canceling headphones and privacy screens. Of all the advice out there, I’ve curated my top 5 favorite tips:
- Designate a workspace. If you don’t have an office or spare room that can be dedicated for this purpose, use a container to easily store work belongings away at the end of the day to signal a return to the room’s original purpose.
- Mix things up. Change your location throughout the day (office, dining room, kitchen, back patio) or make smaller changes (move from desk chair to armchair for reading).
- Set the mood. Get a plant—they make people happy. Light a candle or diffuser. Find a cozy blanket to drape over your chair.
- Use Pinterest responsibly. This is my favorite piece of advice. Not only are design magazine-inspired rooms expensive—not to mention the rabbit-hole-time-suck that is Pinterest and Houzz—the furniture and décor are often impractical.
