While this week is often a joyous one for many medical students, we know that for others it's a very stressful week of navigating the Supplemental Offer and Acceptance Program® (SOAP®). I want to make sure this community is aware of the changes put in place this year for the 2022 SOAP schedule to try to decrease that stress.
Thanks to input from many stakeholders in the transition to residency community, the schedule adjustment should provide a smoother experience for all: giving students and their advisors more time to review and revise application materials and thoughtfully consider their opportunities before programs can access them, and giving programs more time to review SOAP applications.
If you advise applicants going through the SOAP process this week, know that we appreciate the support you provide them as they go through this journey. We encourage you to share your feedback about how the new schedule worked for you and your students this year.
