While front line clinicians and staff don't have the ability to work from home, many of us who support academic medicine in non-patient-care roles are able to do so. A recent article in Fast Company makes the case for working from home as a benefit to diversity, suggesting that remote work can open the door to talent pools that are more diverse in three key areas: gender, accessibility, and race.
After we get through this public health crisis, I hope there will be substantive discussions about what we can learn from telework and other employment flexibility as a means to achieve a more diverse and inclusive workforce.
