The AAMC has issued its 2021 call for award nominations, seeking to recognize and celebrate members of our community who are making significant advances in medical education, cutting-edge patient care, groundbreaking research, and outstanding community engagement.

We continually strive to attract a diverse pool of nominees for these awards. In this context, we are mindful of all aspects of human differences such as socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, language, nationality, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, geography, disability, and age. As with many award programs across professions and industries, we feel the nominations we receive could be even more inclusive of everyone in our academic medicine community. One way to achieve this might be to expand the network of nominators. If you have never submitted a nomination before, consider it now!

This question of the week is more of a challenge: Who in your network deserves to be celebrated for their professional achievements?

Is there someone for whom a national recognition would be particularly meaningful? Is there someone who might serve as an inspiration to others by such a recognition? How can you support diversity in our community by participating in an inclusive awards process?
