Words matter. That's why the AAMC Center for Health Justice has partnered with the American Medical Association (AMA) to help health care professionals incorporate equity-centered, person-first language into patient care. Advancing Health Equity: A Guide to Language, Narrative and Concepts, is intended to support physicians, health care providers, and all of us to change how we speak with and about patients and communities.

"Words matter. They matter because they have the power to perpetuate or to dismantle structural racism, to empower a person or to marginalize them, to reinforce a harmful traditional narrative or to provide an alternative one." - Philip Alberti, PhD, Founding Director, AAMC Center for Health Justice

A new viewpoint from my colleague @Philip Alberti was also released this morning. We must examine and disrupt the dominant narratives in medicine that contribute to health inequity. Thank you Philip for your work on this important resource for health care providers. I hope our community members will take a moment to read the article and share it with your networks.
