    Hey community,

It’s hot out… everywhere. We’re seeking recommendations for fun summer outings in cities across the country and are hoping you’ll share your local knowledge with us here. Check out our AAMC staff curated tips below, and please reply to this discussion with recommendations of your own. Bonus points for kid- or pet-friendly ideas. Have fun and stay cool out there.

Washington, DC: View the monuments by kayak, canoe, or stand-up paddleboard from the Potomac River. Cruise by the Georgetown waterfront, Teddy Roosevelt Island, or try a twilight paddle experience at sunset. Boating in DC.

Charlotte, NC: The US National Whitewater Center is one of CLT’s best outdoor options. It offers more than 30 recreational activities, including hiking trails, rock climbing, zip-lining, a ropes course, whitewater rafting, and deep water experiences. And the Whitewater Center hosts a River Jam summer outdoor concert series every Thursday-Saturday evening all summer long.

Denver, CO: A concert at the Red Rocks Amphitheater seems obvious. So consider taking a yoga class with goats. Yes, it’s a thing. Or cool off with an iced latte and some felines at the Denver Cat Company.

Albany, NY:  Cycle, walk, or jog the Albany County Helderberg-Hudson Rail Trail.  Tour the WWII USS Slater.  Play on the playground, shop at the Saturday farmers' market, and meet dogs and their owners in historic Washington Park.  Visit the New York State Museum (free).

Albany Institute of History & Art. Children especially love its Egyptian mummies, and adults like its Hudson River School paintings and 19th c. sculptures (including one of Alexander Hamilton). It has a nice gift shop too.
