Dear Colleagues:
Our educational leadership teams nationally are managing an enormous amount of change on a daily basis. I am proud of so many who are focused on the care of our patients and communities, our learners, and our faculty and staff. I worry about the stress on all of these folks and while we are focusing on supporting learners, i hope we take a moment to support colleagues.
At Indiana University School of Medicine:
1. Our preclerkhsip curriculum will be delivered entirely on line and via videoconference. Our faculty have transitioned quickly to this delivery mechanism.
2. Our second year students are off for Step 1 study, and learned yesterday that Prometric Centers are closed. The emotional response to this is considerable. We have altered our Step 1 requirements to permit these students to take the exam after clerkships.
3. We have suspended clinical contact during clerkships and other clinical rotations, and have substituted virtual, simulation, and other online education.
4. Match day is canceled.
Lots going on. Please stay safe and sane.
For some, reaching out within institutions is difficult. If I can be of support to any of our colleagues on this community, please feel free to email, text, or call.
My very best,
Paul
