  • 1.  Tip Tuesday: faculty salary benchmarking report-choosing the best format for you

    Posted 02-08-2022 09:56:00 AM

Many of you are aware that the AAMC provides an annual report of detailed faculty compensation information. It is designed for both individuals intending to negotiate salary or make informed career decisions, and for institutional decision-makers engaged in strategic planning for their department or institution.

The updated data is now available.

AAMC Faculty Salary Report breaks out total compensation by degree, rank, department/specialty, medical school type, region, gender, and beginning with the FY 2021 data, race/ethnicity.

The report comes in 2 formats, so select the one that best meets your needs:

    1. The online version contains three years of compensation data. Only the online version contains data on compensation by gender and race/ethnicity.

    2. The print version includes one year of compensation data. The print version does not contain any data on compensation by gender or race/ethnicity.

Has there ever been consideration given to having an online search feature by specialty and rank for a discounted rate (or free)?  When individual faculty are interested in finding out salary benchmarks, they don't need all of the data. Many/most faculty would be reluctant to pay for the entire report to get access to a few numbers that may or may not even be helpful to them in salary negotiations.

This is a great question I receive a lot as the AAMC staffer who manages the Council of Faculty and Academic Societies, which has a few hundred faculty reps at academic health centers all over the country. They are definitely interested in this data! The AAMC Faculty Salary data tables are available at a steeply discounted price to people with professional affiliations to member organizations. The regular price is $1,150. The member price is $45 for a yearlong subscription to all data. If you follow the link below you'll see red text about the member pricing on the lower right hand side. Once you log in with your AAMC username and password it should be available at the reduced price.

    A gentle reminder...

Your AAMC individual account must be linked to an AAMC member institution in our database to enable you to see the AAMC member pricing while purchasing our products online.  Just contact AAMC Store at aamcstore@aamc.org or AAMC Member Services at memberservice@aamc.org for assistance as needed.
