We are excited to announce that the AAMC has published a first-of-its-kind analysis of the prevalence and experiences of sexual harassment among U.S. medical school faculty in the workplace. We found that 22% of all faculty and 34% of women faculty experienced sexual harassment, with differences by race/ethnicity as well as specialty (some specialties had rates up to 79%!).

A unique part of our report is the connection between those faculty who experience of harassment and lower engagement levels and higher likelihood of leaving their institution. We also identified ten common innovative practices among the institutions we interviewed that other schools can readily adopt. In this report we tried to fill in the unknown data gaps as well as highlight cultural factors unique to academic medicine that allow harassment to persist, and solutions to prevent it.

For more information, we will be hosting a webinar about the report on Aug. 24. Download the report now.

We know many institutions are actively addressing and preventing these behaviors. How are your institutions helping combat sexual harassment? Comment below.
