The AAMC, like many of you, has been closely following an announcement from the administration regarding significant cuts to funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) that would have far-reaching, negative effects on research institutions - and the work that many of you do to improve the health of people everywhere. This week, we led the filing of a lawsuit challenging the legality of the administration's plan to make cuts to federally funded research. The District Court will hear arguments on a motion for preliminary injunction on Feb. 21, 2025.
In the meantime, my colleague Elena Fuentes-Afflick, MPH, the AAMC's chief scientific officer, and I are communicating with national and Washington-based media outlets, alerting them to the real consequences of this harmful and counterproductive decision. Thank you for all of your efforts in advocating for the importance of research to our nation's health, and thank you to those who reached out to me directly.
