Happy Wednesday!
You are cordially invited to join us, Friday, April 28th for the IDEAS Unburdening the Minority Tax: Turning Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Scholarship into Capital webinar.
Webinar Information:
Date: April 28, 2023
Time: 1:00 EDT
Some academic community members face the unique phenomenon of the minority tax, defined as the burden of time and resources placed on minoritized and/or historically marginalized individuals to present and advocate for their communities, which may inhibit their scholarly productivity and promotion trajectory. Academic publishing serves as one approach to elevating educational innovations related to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and helping individuals build minority capital. During this session, the speakers will identify strategies, such as mentorship and organizational collaboration, to help others reframe the impact of prioritizing work in DEI spaces and will share personal examples of how publishing DEI work can build capital.
After participating in this session, attendees should be able to:
- Define the concepts of minority tax and minority capital
- Describe how publishing DEI work can help build capital
- Provide examples of building capital through DEI publications
