Call for Proposals: A Showcase on Applications of the Foundational Competencies for Undergraduate Medical Education
Join us in shaping the future of competency-based medical education by sharing your school's early work and insights!
As part of the AAMC Learn Serve Lead 2025 national conference, we invite submissions for a dedicated workshop on Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) in undergraduate medical education titled From Framework to Function: Advancing CBE in Undergraduate Medical Education. This workshop, scheduled November 1, 2025 1:00 to 4:00pm CT, will highlight how medical schools are adopting and operationalizing the new Foundational Competencies for UME, released by the AAMC, AACOM, and ACGME.
We seek proposals that illustrate concrete strategies, pilot efforts, lessons learned, or innovations in using the new foundational competencies to guide curriculum design, teaching, learning, assessment, advising, or systems-level change in undergraduate medical education. We welcome a range of approaches, from whole-program transformations to smaller-scale efforts within specific courses, clerkships, or student support services.
Proposals may focus on (but are not limited to):
- Mapping curricula to the new foundational competencies
- Designing assessments or entrustment decisions aligned with the framework
- Preparing faculty to teach and assess competencies across developmental stages
- Using the competencies to inform individualized learning plans, coaching, or portfolios
- Addressing challenges in adopting CBME components
Format: Selected presenters will participate in an interactive three-hour workshop designed to foster peer exchange, practical insights, and national dialogue. Each selected presentation will be brief (10 minutes) and followed by small group discussion and Q&A. These showcases will be part of a broader workshop agenda on CBME.
Please note: All selected presenters must register for Learn Serve Lead and attend in person. Travel and registration costs must be paid by presenters. One day rates are available.
Eligibility: We encourage submissions from MD- and DO-granting institutions, including faculty, staff, students, and administrators involved in CBME implementation.
Submission Deadline: October 1, 2025
