Hey there, Academic Medicine Open Forum!

I’m @Kaitlyn Leaf and the manager of the Curriculum Community. Over the past few months, we’ve had a lot of different conversations pop up on AI. After connecting with a few different AAMC colleagues, we decided to create some monthly calls to bring folks across all the virtual communities together. We know this is a rapidly evolving tool and technology and that our community wants opportunities to talk to and learn from one another. And so, we would like to extend an invitation to our upcoming Community Conversations: AI and Medical Education series.

The calls are designed to facilitate conversation among our community members. We will gather everyone, discuss the guidelines for conversations, and allow participants 30 minutes to discuss topics in breakout rooms. Participants will be able to move from room to room during those 30 minutes. Afterward, everyone will meet in the main zoom room for a wrap up discussion and share a bit about their experience and any lingering questions.

    Some topics up for discussion:

    • AI Policy
    • Using AI in teaching
    • Using AI in curriculum mapping
    • Learner use of AI
    • Ethics
    • Challenges and Opportunities

This meeting will not be recorded due to its conversational nature. Please note that the first 500 registrants are guaranteed access, so make sure to register and join us the following dates:

I hope to see y’all there!

    Kaitlyn

    Hey y'all!

These community calls have been such a pleasure to host and it's so lovely to see repeat attendees and new faces each month. I wanted to share a couple of updates and resources that were shared in the 10/24 call. One thing that garnered a lot of interest was crafting effective prompts for generative AI. If anyone has an interest or some experience in crafting prompts, please reach out and/or join our next call in December!

In yesterday's call I started thinking about how it takes a village and how it's nice not to do everything alone. And I think that relates to the topic of AI and rapidly evolving technology. Often we feel isolated and try to figure everything out ourselves. That's one of the best things about these community conversations-- the reminder that we are not alone and that gathering and sharing in community can be uplifting and encouraging. So I want to thank those folks who have been helping along the way and those who will help us at later calls. Here's a special shout out to our community members @Nancy Hayes, @Katherine Senko, @Kathleen Everling@Karim Hanna, @Bernard Chang, and @Gauri Agarwal. And of course, AAMC colleagues, @Toni Gallo, @Alexis Rossi, @Jeffrey Kaminski, @Ethan Kendrick and @Penny Schnarrs. I am grateful for each of you!

If anyone is interested in helping with a future call, please apply to our volunteer opportunity

Thank you, @Kaitlyn Leaf. It's a pleasure to support these calls. I learn something new every time I attend one of the "AI and Medical Education" sessions. A huge thank you to the entire community for your interest, communication, and commitment to collaboration!

@Kaitlyn Leaf thanks for sharing the resources. Sorry to have missed the latest call but looking forward to December. Prompts is high on my mentoring list. The mantra I impose on students and faculty alike: Knowledge is having the right answer. Intelligence is asking the right question.

Such a great point @Nancy Hayes and knowing how to ask the right questions (and to which tool) is definitely something many of us are working on now! I'd also like to echo what @Jeffrey Kaminski said in that the discussion is new for every call. So much great conversation!
