"Defederated" social media networks (Mastadon, BlueSky)

A lot of physicians, researchers and others left Twitter after Elon took over, destroyed security, safety and moderation teams and employees, and made it over in his own image (please forgive my bias).

We saw lots of talk and activity around so-called "defederated" social media networks, with the most commonly cited being Mastadon and BlueSky. Meanwhile, Zuckerberg rushed Threads into production as a text-first alternative to X that is so far inextricably tied to having an Instagram account.

Dust has settled some. So how are your med schools and med centers leveraging these networks if at all? I'm curious to understand:

Difference if any among purely academic units (research, training) and the clinical enterprise?

Are you allowing branded accounts on these platforms and if so, how are you putting guardrails in place to protect your brand and your organization's reputation?

Are there any of these "X alternatives" that you see picking up speed? I've heard from an n-of-1, a faculty member who is very much an early -- and effective -- adopter who is saying he's starting to see traction on BlueSky for his personal activity and has dropped Mastadon and Threads because he's not seen much there.

Could be a lunch roundtable topic -- emerging social networking tools and trends. @Madalyn Sistak
