    Hello Academic Medicine Community,

Please share your practices regarding how you provide faculty led academic advising at your institutions. Which faculty provide this important service to your students? Do they have any role in grading your students or in your students' promotion decision?

    Thanks for your input.

Our students have faculty advisors who are physicians.  They are separate from the evaluation process, which is done by the instructors. Our students receive "on the fly" evaluations of their work in the clerkships, which are done electronically throughout the clerkships. Students have the option to request a faculty advisor in a speciality of interest in the 3rd year. Promotion decisions are handled by the Educational Progress Committee (EPC). Their advisors may be clerkship instructors, or members of the EPC, but they do not have a role as advisors in the evaluation process.
