    Posted 01-20-2023 07:20:00 PM

If you've been struggling to put some of your better health habits in place this year, I've found the perfect time to be intentional about enjoying some sunshine, getting some exercise and breathing some fresh air, Take a Walk Outdoors Day offers just the motivation needed to get outside and get moving!

Let's celebrate those who are getting their bodies moving and motivate others in the community - share your picture of you walking today!

Create a Musical Playlist for Walking

In honor of Take a Walk Outdoors Day, make a list of music to play while going on that walk. Get inspired by some of these titles that are written around the theme of walking:

    • Walking on Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves (1983). Released by the eighties British Band, this song was the most popular one that the band released.
    • Walking in Memphis by Marc Cohn (1991). Written and recorded by Marc Cohn, this song was nominated for a Grammy Award for song of the year.
    • Walking by Myself by Jimmie Rogers (1956). Learn to appreciate that time alone and for walking on your own.
      • Walk of Life by Dire Straits (1985). Appearing on Dire Straits fifth album, this song has a catchy tune that’s perfect for walking to!

What song would you add to the list?

Great ideas! Sometimes it's hard to work up the motivation to go outside for a walk, but I almost always feel better when I do. I thought of some other songs that mention walking or other forms of cardio (though admittedly they're not all actually about cardio) and made a list that reveals my biases for classic rock, Eurovision-adjacent music, and meme music:

    • "Walking the Dog" by Rufus Thomas (1963)
    • "Nowhere To Run" by Martha Reeves & The Vandellas (1965)
    • "Bike" by Pink Floyd (1967)
    • "Run Through The Jungle" by Creedence Clearwater Revival (1970)
    • "Walking Back to Georgia" by Jim Croce (1972)
    • "On the Run" by Pink Floyd (1972)
    • "Band On The Run" by Wings (1974)
    • "Walk This Way" by Aerosmith (1975)
    • "Running on Empty" by Jackson Browne (1977)
    • "Walk of Life" by Dire Straits (1985)
    • "Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)" by Kate Bush (1985)
    • "Runaway" by Traveling Wilburys (1990)
    • "Walking On Air" by King Crimson (1995)
    • "Walkin' on the Sun" by Smash Mouth (1997)
