Agreed. I have seem some confusion over the years over the differences between an LMS, a CMS (Curriculum Management System), and an All-In-One System do. We have always had an LMS that also had some CMS capabilities built in, but often times, schools actually need a paring of a free-standing LMS and a CMS to meet their needs. Plus all of the ancillary learning technologies that do not fit into the above buckets.

Subject: How many Learning Management Systems (LMS) do you use and how many are too many?
Hi Kathryn,
Many systems go into making a curriculum and delivery of that curriculum work. At Geisel we use the following:
- Learning Management System = Canvas
- Academic Scheduling/Calendars/Patient Tracking/Evaluations/Curriculum Mapping = OASIS
- Interactive Polling = Poll Everywhere
- Instructional/Learning Support Resources
- ScholarRx
- UWorld
- Anki
- Aquifer
- Library Resources (Bates, Netters, ebooks, journal articles, UpToDate, etc)
- Assessments = NBME (clerkships), Examsoft (pre-clerkship)
From the example above, we only use one LMS. Some might say that OASIS is an LMS, but that is not how we use it. I am not familiar with LEO so I cannot speak to that systems functionalities. We do also use SharePoint but that is mostly for academic planning and a repository for policies to maintain consistency.
This is a very common discussion topic within the AAMC virtual community. Some resources/references can be found by searching the Curriculum Community. Here's a search I just did. https://communities.aamc.org/search3?executeSearch=true&SearchTerm=learning+management+system&l=1
I hope that is helpful. Happy to discuss further.
Best,
Amanda

Subject: How many Learning Management Systems (LMS) do you use and how many are too many?
Greetings from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine!
My name is Kat Hagan, and I am the Preclinical Curriculum Manager here at the COM. We are currently working on transitioning our curriculum and amongst this one of many changes, we are looking at all of the applications that we currently utilize to function on a day to day basis. Currently, we use Canvas for our preclinical course work, exams/quizzes, and grades. We also utilize LEO by DaVinchi for our Academic Calendar, posting of daily course events for the preclinical and clinical years, evaluations, Patient Encounter Tracking (PET log), and enrollment. We have recently added in the use of Top Hat for our interactive lecture sessions, and will be adding ScholarRx next academic year to be used in our coursework. So, as you can see, many LMS applications are currently being utilized. I'm curious to know how other institutions are functioning and if we are all in a similar boat, floating amongst the vast learning management systems that are needed to deliver curriculum.
Any insight anyone can provide is so helpful!
Thanks!
