In this age of hybrid employment, what types of internal communications tools, strategies and vehicles do other academic medical centers use to reach and engage with both in-person and remote employees? How can we encourage employees to engage with these tools? What are some success stories within your own organizations when you've been able to effectively implement an engaging internal communications tool? Would love to learn from others' successes. Thank you!

    Hi Jessica,

At University of Illinois College of Medicine, we use Slack for communication. We have three campuses and have some employees who work remotely. In fact, I lived in Miami for a year during the pandemic 2021-2022 and Slack made it very easy to stay in contact with my colleagues. We have two workspaces (actually more but two main ones): one for just faculty and staff, the other is student-facing. We have a lot of channels since we have multiple campuses. I'd be happy to talk about it if you want to know more.

To give an example: we have three campuses and I oversee coordinators at each campus (I am in a college-wide role, not a local campus role). I set up channels for us to communicate about various things like making sure the correct PPT is loaded to our LMS, etc., and the traffic is very busy daily.
