Each webinar will build upon the last to highlight barriers and considerations at each phase of training, from entering medical school to graduating from residency.
Topics include: Admissions, Ableist Belief Systems, Technical Standards, Remediation of Disabled Learners, Promotions Committee review of Learners with Disabilities, Fitness for Duty evaluations, and Leave of Absence and Clinical Accommodations.
Webinar 3 includes a team of #DocsWithDisabilities that will discuss the practical ways they navigate the clinical environment and how they believe programs can improve access for all trainees.
Description Webinar 1:
Part one of this series will give an overview of challenges and opportunities for physicians with disabilities, including how disability enriches the learning environment. The webinar will identify the key barriers for students with disabilities entering medicine, including ableist belief systems, outdated technical standards, and ableism in admissions. The webinar will also provide guidance and best practices for technical standards, communicating disability inclusion, and how to avoid the disconnect that occurs when disability inclusion is not addressed throughout the training environment.
