  • 1.  Medical school magazines that publish twice a year

    Hi!

I'm the managing editor of the flagship magazine for Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine. We currently publish four times a year (fall, winter, spring, and summer), but will be moving to twice a year. As a result, we're trying to identify the best times to publish, and I'm looking for some insight from other medical school magazines that publish twice yearly. Any thoughts and/or advice is greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!

    Hi, Brooke.

I'm at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and we publish twice a year - spring and fall. That seems to be the most logical times. We aim to get issues in the mail late October/early November (before Thanksgiving and the December holidays) and then late April/early May (before commencement and when people start to take off for the summer). We had a few late issues when supply chain problems prevented us from having paper, but this is our goal.

Happy to chat more if you'd like. I have a soft spot for NU - my alma mater. Go Cats!!

    Hi Brooke,

I recently took over UB Medicine magazine at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo, and we are on a spring/fall schedule as well. Our target mail dates are late March/early April and late October/early November.

We publish our School of Medicine alumni magazine twice a year, summer (Aug/Sept release) and Winter (Feb/March release). It works well for us.

    Hi Brooke,

Sorry I'm tardy to the party, but Einstein magazine (at Albert Einstein College of Medicine) publishes twice a year. Our schedule is similar to others' who have responded: our winter/spring issue comes out late April/early May and our summer/fall issue in late Oct/early Nov. I would prefer that our issues come out about a month earlier -- so the winter/spring issue would have more time on the stands before campus empties out and the summer/fall issue would hit closer to the start of the academic year -- but it seems to work well.

Please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions.

    Best,

    Deirdre
