Hello AAMC Family,
We are conducting an internal audit regarding the collection of Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP) data through MSP questionnaires. We are seeking clarification concerning a transmittal issued by the CMS in 2018 and the CMS Medicare Secondary Payer Manual (2023).
The 2018 transmittal includes notice of a new exception to the Medicare Secondary Payer Questionnaire (attached). This exception regards the requirement to ask Medicare patients MSP questions at each inpatient and most outpatient visits. This exception went into effect on November 20, 2018.
As the CMS MSP Manual was updated in 2023, we were wondering whether the updated 2023 version of the Manual renders the 2018 transmittal obsolete, or if the 2018 transmittal is still applicable?
