I started a food blog during the pandemic (uglyducklingbakery.com). It's been satisfying that creative itch, and I think it'll be the answer to "what do I do when the grant money stops coming/retire?" It has also opened my eyes to everything that food blogging is. I actually used to be a huge Smitten Kitchen fan but realized that she built her brand by plagiarizing - literally copying and making money off the works of others. I can't imagine what would have happened in my academic career if I started out that way.
There's a great FB community at Women Physicians Cook (used to be only Doc Moms but has since broadened).
I'm a huge cookbook fan - Amanda Hesser's NY Times, all the Test Kitchen books (particularly the TV show cookbook), Ottolenghi, Meera Sodha, and anything baking by Rose Levy Beranbaum or Dorie Greenspan. Cookbooks from 10-20 years ago were more likely to be written by great cooks and less by cooking influencers.

Medical student Courtney Newman and Jaclyn Albin, MD, both at UT Southwestern, joined me on a recent episode of the Academic Medicine Podcast to discuss culinary medicine and its role in teaching nutrition, nutrition counseling, and hands-on cooking skills to medical students.
Listen anywhere podcasts are available or read the transcript.
My favorite part of our conversation was how culinary medicine programs, especially cooking together and sharing conversations around food and food traditions, build connections and community and improve well-being.
To that end, what are your favorite easy, healthy recipes, go to food blogs, or best meal prep hacks? Share them here!
I'll start with my absolute favorite food blog, Smitten Kitchen. I've yet to find a recipe I didn't like. And Deb the creator is all about unfussy cooking so fewer dishes to do afterward!
