The #DocsWithDisabilities Initiative team is proud to announce the launch of the Women with Disabilities in Medicine #WWDIM Mentoring Group

Led by Drs. Diana Cejas, MD, MPH, FAAP and Allison Kessler Vear

Did you know that only 3% of physicians identify as disabled, and only 1% of these are women?

The pathway to and through medical education to practice is riddled with barriers and biases that may lead women with disabilities to exit the biomedical workforce. With such a small population of women with disabilities in medicine, there is a dearth of mentorship and support available to students and trainees.

Allison, Diana and I believe that Medicine could use an infusion of first-hand experience from people with the lived experience of having a disability--so let's change these statistics.

To combat the dearth of mentorship and opportunity available to women with disabilities in medicine, The Docs With Disabilities Initiative is launching the WWDIM Mentoring Group.

In the pilot year, this small group will consist of 12 mentees and 12 mentors for a one-year mentoring experience.

We encourage you to share this information with your students, trainees and faculty who might be interested.
