    I'm very active in the GEA and SGEA and what it means for these inifinity groups is that you can apply for awards and grants.  It's a way to focus our limited financial resources on folks from member schools since they pay the institutional fees and in some cases small dues for the groups.
    I'm sure there is more, but I hope this helps!
