Results from the AAMC StandPoint Survey’s 2023 State of Medical School Faculty Engagement report show a few notable trends:
- overall engagement of medical school faculty remains high, even through the challenges of the pandemic
- faculty with a formal mentor report higher levels of workplace engagement than colleagues who have no mentor or only informal mentors
- faculty burnout has increased since the pandemic, particularly among women
- women faculty report experiences of gender harassment and disrespect based on gender, race/ethnicity, and age at a higher rate than men faculty, particularly women identifying with a race/ethnicity underrepresented in medicine
- women and faculty of color are dissatisfied with equity in promotion processes, the pace of their advancement, and opportunities for professional development when compared with their peers
