My favorite restaurant in the whole world is the Trader Vic's at the bottom of the Hilton downtown. Highly recommend for a nostalgic fun experience! There is also a really great breakfast place called the Metro Diner near there which has classic diner food.

I also would recommend the aquarium and if you are into college football the College Football Hall of Fame is there also. There is also the World of Coke which is pretty fun for families (if you like soda!). There is a children's museum as well in that area. I haven't been to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens but I have heard really good things.

Atlanta resident checking in! My favorite thing to do in the city is eat (I recently gave a friend a casual 40 lists of restaurants to choose from) but my absolute fave is Taqueria del Sol, which conveniently has multiple locations around the city. The chef wanted to blend a traditional taco stand with Southern food and I think he nailed it (the long-time restaurant critic for Atlanta magazine also counts it among her favorites). For upscale, The Deer and the Dove in Decatur or Miller Union are stand outs in regional cuisine. Atlanta also has a really great international food scene, most of which is focused on one road called Buford Highway.

For things to do, a lot of the larger tourist attractions are grouped together near Centennial Park, which is super convenient if you want to go to a few of them. I would definitely second the Botanical Garden, which has a great tropical plants greenhouse even in the cold months. If you want to do some people watching and see the city by foot, taking a walk or bike ride down the Beltline is always a good time (Atlanta also has a decent number of urban hiking trails .. the Doll's Head Trail is one of the more unusual ones). Off the beaten path, I will pitch for the two places I hang out the most: Decatur (my neighborhood) and Oakland Cemetery. Downtown Decatur has a lot of really cute local shops and restaurants if you're in a shopping mood (also Ponce City Market for shopping, though more national stores than Decatur). I also will pitch for Oakland Cemetery, where I volunteer, which has a wonderful tour that gives you an overview of the city of Atlanta through the stories of its residents. Tours have to be booked in advance, but definitely worth it!

I also recommend Bodies The Exhibition: EMGroup Bodies The Exhibition (bodiesatlanta.com). It's located in Atlantic Station, a lovely outdoor shopping center.

I visited Atlanta ealier this year and went to two really great restaurants: Rumi's Kitchen which is delicious Persian food, and a German restaurant called Der Biergarten which was lovely and very close to the convention center!

I second Rachel's botanical garden suggestion!

For those on plant-based diets (and everyone who loves delicious food), I highly recommend Herban Fix, Planta, and Planta Queen! For a unique excursion, check out the Center for Puppetry Arts. They have partnerships with Henson studios and currently have a Fraggle Rock Exhibit. The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra is phenomenal as well.
