I recently published an opinion piece in the Journal of the American Medical Association on the impact of state abortion bans in deterring future physicians from practicing in those states. I encouraged political leaders in those states to consider the potentially harmful effects these new policies will have on their ability to recruit and retain sufficient clinicians--particularly in locations where there is already a critical shortage of rural health care providers.
What are you seeing in your state or region? What are the most pressing needs in rural communities--and how are academic medical centers helping to serve them?
