The AAMC's 10-point strategic plan was developed to address some of medicine's most pressing issues. As a part of Strategic Action Plan 7: Improve Access to Health Care for All, maternal mental health is a critical piece. Mental health challenges are the leading cause of perinatal and pregnancy related deaths in the United States, despite being preventable. We know this is particularly impactful for birthing people who are Black and brown, and those who are living without sufficient resources and access to care. This fall, the AAMC will be launching a new webinar series titled, Improving Maternal Mental Health Outcomes: Varied Approaches to Closing the Gap of Care. The first webinar featuring Postpartum Support International on Perinatal Mental Health Hotlines & Resources will be held Monday, September 11th from 4:00 – 5:00 pm ET.
