September is #SuicidePreventionMonth - and in academic medicine, this message unfortunately could not be more urgent. Many in the field experience overwhelming stress, burnout, and isolation, as the weight of caring for others can come at a cost.
This month, The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) shares the power of genuine connection in our mental health: a call to a friend, a shared story, a moment of vulnerability and empathy. These simple actions can make our friends and colleagues feel seen, and may even help prevent a crisis.
This month and year-round, let's continue working to reduce stigma, prioritize well-being, and create a culture of care in medicine. View this SAMHSA resource: https://www.samhsa.gov/about/digital-toolkits/suicide-prevention-month
