Our thanks to those who joined us for our first session in the series. We had some conversations where folks were able to share their ideas, personal experiences, and connect around the topic of poverty and academic medicine. Food insecurity, especially for medical students was a big focus - not a new issue (check out AAMCNews coverage here: Feeding future doctors: Universities work to alleviate food insecurity among medical students | AAMC). The call only scratched the surface of such an important and large wicked problem. Whether you joined this session, plan to join one of the future calls or just want to add your own thoughts - we encourage you to keep the conversation going.
We have started a document of resources that we are gathering from each of the sessions and will create a final resource bundle (check out the others we've curated here) - with your continued help and feedback after the final session on March 6. Have ideas or thoughts around this topic? What are you or your institutions doing to help make a change? Weigh in below!
Want to join a future call? It's not too late:
📆 February/March 2024 Topic Spotlight: Poverty and Academic Medicine
Exploring the impact of poverty in medicine and academic education is crucial for understanding the challenges and identifying potential solutions. Participants will go deep in conversation and explore questions about access to health care, health outcomes, medical education & diversity, community engagement, and more.
Our thanks to our Community Champions - your peers who will be facilitating the calls.
